Doug is a lawyer by training and was called to the Ontario bar in 1999 after a clerkship at the Federal Court of Appeal. His professional experience spans international trade law, intellectual property policy, antitrust law and pharmaceutical pricing and reimbursement. From 2000 to 2023, Doug ascended the executive ranks of the Canadian federal government, including stints as director of patent policy, assistant deputy commissioner of competition, and executive director of the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB). After more than two decades as a public servant, Doug left the federal government to become the first ever CEO of the newly incorporated pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA). Now semi-retired, Doug enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle with his partner, three kids and a very mischevious dog.
